Swansboro, once an Algonkian Indian Village, become a maritime community when a prominent land owner divided his plantation into 48 lots with six streets and the colonial port town was created. It wasn't until 1783 that the town become incorporated and was named after the North Carolina House of Commons Speaker Samuel Swann. Today, Swansboro is relaxed coastal living at it's best, surrounded by water. Residents enjoy fishing, kayaking, hiking, camping and more. Swansboro is also a transient boater's community with marina's and town docking available. Swansboro is also a tourist destination offering shopping, dining, as well as many recreational activities.
